I know some Mac haters and I know some PC haters, and I don't believe the ads are focused on either. I think the ads are focused on people like myself, PC users who know the ins and outs and pitfalls of a life with Windows and understand just how frustrating and "un-fun" they can be. While they may seem condescending from some standpoints, I see it as being closer to self-depricating humor. Everyone knows that Windows has its quirks (or bugs or flaws, depending on which camp you are in), and that's what the ads play off of. What the ads do for me is make me want to research the OS alternative to Windows, and really find out if Mac is all it's cracked up to be.

The fact that Justin Long is getting caught up in the buzz and mistakenly thought of as a Mac Nerd just shows how idiotic the tv-watching public can be. If they don't understand that these are actors, how are they ever going to understand the commercial's premise: that Macs may be just what you, the frustrated Windows user, have been looking for.

While much of the attention regarding the long-delayed launch of the white iPhone 4 has died down, a few tidbits of interest continue to trickle out.

Late last week, Japanese blog Macotakara pointed (http://www.macotakara.jp/blog/index.php?ID=12466) to a pair of tweets from @kazunie (http://twitter.com/kazunie) highlighting some of the differences between the black and white models of the iPhone 4.

I got 9A2439 from my University's seeding server, while the one released to devs at WWDC was 9A2441... but nevertheless this updated to 9A2441e.

Upon rebooting I noticed everything was a bit snappier and some minor bugs were fixed. 10.5 is running really speedy... damn near 10.4 or dare I say... faster?

I registered just so I could respond to this thing..

I'm getting really sick of companies that complain whenever they're met with competition. They love capitalism until it's working against them. Target and Wal*Mart are acting like little children who don't get their way.

Under the Sherman Act, what Target and Wal*Mart are doing falls under the category of antitrust. Attempting to manipulate the market through the use of contracts and threats aimed towards hurting competitors is defined as antitrust. If Target and Wal*Mart go along with this, a class-action lawsuit can be filed against them for forcing us to pay their prices for DVDs without a lower-priced alternative.

Target and Wal*Mart could easily compete with Apple's movie store, even without lowering prices.

Grow up Target. This isn't a communist nation, we have a little something called Capitalism that's basically social darwinism: Compete or shut up.

Simple solution for Wal*Mart: You know that little online music store you have? Why not add movies to it? You have enough money!

There's a reason why it'd be easier to make an AWS iPhone than a CDMA iPhone; CDMA is pretty much monopolized by Qualcomm, so if Apple wanted a CDMA iphone it'd probably cost quite a bit to make.

Of course, Apple could simply buy out Qaulcomm. I kinda look forward to the day Steve walks out on stage and starts bragging about Verizon's awesome coverage areas lol.

AWS isn't AFAIK monopolized by anyone and should be as easy to do as current GSM is. (I may be wrong)

Actually a vast majority of normal mac owners (not the geeks and fans who visit the mac sites) don't update their OS as often as you think. It's nice to know that for the same price of 1 copy of Windows XP Pro, you can get a 5-lisenced family pack of Mac OS X.

    THINK ABOUT THAT!

[QUOTE=deconai]I am amazed to recently discover Mac owners pay more on average to keep the most current OS running on their box, even though OS X is cheaper (by about $70) than comparative Windows releases. This is, of course, due to the release of a new version of OS X every 18 months or so compared to the ridiculous periods between Windows versions.

    Agreed.

Samsung and LG already settled with Kodak.

    Kodak's (NYSE:EK) market cap is < $1B.

Why doesn't Apple just buy them and continue the suit against RIM?

This is totally off subject but...

Still cannot laugh. My wife (Japanese) said it was not funny and must have been written by a Kanto comedian. If a Kansai comedian had written it, it would have been funnier.

Actually, it is the taste of Kanto (around Tokyo) not that of Kansai (around Osaka). But for the image of Apple in Japan, Kansai plot is not suitable, I guess. Because the image of Kansai is not cool.

As a native Japanese, good one is iLife one (someone calls it "iRife" BTW).

Actors are comedian duo called "Ramens" (you know ramen as in chinese noodle)

Where do you think the Thunderbolt port might even go in the Air? Will it replace one of the USB ports? Doesn't seem like there's really that much room... thoughts?

The Thunderbolt port takes up no additional room. It replaces the miniDisplay port that is already on the machine.

Just buy T-Mobile. Its cheap and compatible with the current iphone hardware. Looks like its worth around 10 billion. They could just write a check. Its actually right up apple's alley given their hostorical desire to control everything under the umbrella. They would obviously have to make significant investments to to get the network up to par with ATT and Verizon, but the returns are there. The iphone would be untouchable if Apple controlled the networks. They would change the whole industry. Better yet, Deutch Telekom wants to sell.

They could also be having problems with fit because a white iPhone is taller or wider than the black one. Has anyone measured the other dimensions?

Wow. I don't think anyone has thought of measuring the other directions. You're a genius.

Yup. So the EF-s lens is providing a field of view of 16-35.2mm in full-frame, 35mm equivalent. So is effected by the 1.6 crop. Which is what I've been saying all along.

Yep. so you are now using the term Equivalent, not actual, which is not what you have been arguing, but I have.... Actual focal length is 10-22 in EFS. Effective in 35mm terms is 16-32mm.

OK. So, with your logic, take that Equivalent in Full Frame EF 16-35.2mm lens and put it back on your 7D, and your FOV changes again, and your Image changes. It will be using the center of the lens's elements, in effect "cropping" your image tighter, which now gives you an effective focal length of 56.32 mm on the long end, not the 22mm as your argument would dictate.

As stated before, you are comparing Apples to Oranges. You have to have a standard frame of reference which is a 35mm sensor size.

I know this is more of a "wish" thread than a "likely to happen" thread, but I'm going to chime in and predict that the Air refresh will be fairly minor.

I predict we'll see Sandy Bridge and Thunderbolt (like the Pro/iMac lines) and better GPU, but beyond that, I predict same body design, no addition of backlit keys, and the worst prediction: likely the same SSD configurations. I say this based on the refreshed iMac SSD options; the prices for SSD have not gone down even in the slightest. I predict the base SSD options and even the BTO options will remain the same as they are today. Of course, I hope I am way wrong.

The last thing, which in my opinion can swing one way or another, is the RAM. I predict it'll stay standard (again, based on the iMac refresh) at 2 GB, and will not come standard 4 GB. Again, I hope so too that this will swing in a more favorable way.

    Pure speculation.

My first week of owning my MBA 13, I was going to move my Superdrive while still plugged in. The extremely short cord got me and it fell on my palmrest area leaving a ugly scratch. I had some Novus #2 fine scratch remover for glass and plastic. I used it and it did a good job. It was very obvious before and after 5 minutes of buffing, I really have to search for the spot.

What I'm curious about is why blindly (for a lot of people) support a very successful band, wouldn't this have been a really nice little story if people rallied to buy a track from a smaller/upcoming band? Or maybe a real charity single or for something more deserving, like them soldier blokes or whoever.

Good points, but I think you're knit-picking. A smaller and more unknown song from a smaller and more unknown band wouldn't have had the same impact. Nearly everyone has heard of RATM, and I think that's what essentially sold it. The song, band and cause, all being about rebellion.

We've tried what you said before with something called Band Aid. The first time it was rather good and useful. The second time it sucked. The Americans also tried it and it sucked as well.

I think giving money to shelter is a very good thing to do. I'd certainly hate to be spending xmas alone on the streets, especially in this weather. Soldiers have a job, and it is their choice they wanted to join the army. By all means, they should get all the help needed, but I believe helping the homeless is much more kinder. Please don't shoot me down for that, I fully respect the troops fighting for us abroad, but it was their choice to do that, where as, being homeless, isn't.

Apologies for not coming back earlier, and thank you for your suggestions and comments. I agree a pocket watch would look good. Less contrast but nicer photo. However, it's a moot point as I'm fresh out of pocket watches at the moment! :) I've been waiting for some sun and me being here to reshoot it. Had to do it from the other side as it was 2 pm before the opportunity arose and maybe the background isn't as good, also tried a lower viewpoint this time.

    http://img691.imageshack.us/img691/8238/contrast2.jpg

I liked the first one much better. The angle and the background just don't work for me on this one. I think you were headed in the right direction on the first one though.
