Advocacy Action Item August 2009 - update
The summer August recess is in progress and the lawmakers are still in their constituencies. This is an opportunity for us to meet with them and address our issues and present solutions in preparation for the upcoming CIR. We must push for our agenda to get our provisions in the base bill as CIR is being drafted currently. If we do not get our provisions in the base bill then it is much harder to get them attached to the bill in the form of amendments.
IV therefore requests its members, to continue to call up and start scheduling lawmaker meetings NOW. Please take appointments with your local lawmakers of both houses of Congress. our members have been taking appointments and so far the feedback has been extremely positive. These meetings have enabled us to enlighten the lawmaker offices and engage in constructive dialog that not only addresses our issues and concerns but also provides solutions to the backlogs.
As communicated earlier, we have created multiple documents and support material that will go into your �Advocacy Packet� for you to carry for these lawmaker meetings. We have also created a Lawmaker Appointment Book

In summary there are two parts to this action item
1) Please continue to take the appointments with your lawmakers. We need to maximize the remaining August recess days to get as many meetings as possible with either the lawmakers or their close aides. Advocacy is an integral, essential and important part of democracy and we must exercise our first amendment right. Immigration Voice is a grassroots organization, which means, every member in the community plays an important role towards resolving our issues and achieving our goals. Our members are highly skilled, well educated and extremely talented who continue to contribute towards the success of the organization. Our membership base is large and growing every day. The best way to organize ourselves so that our efforts can be effective and yield desired results is by joining state chapters and actively participating in grassroots efforts. State chapters play a very important role in shaping the organization. State chapters organize conference calls, meetings, social gatherings, grassroots advocacy, publicity campaigns, and media campaigns, generate awareness and coordinate many other activities. State chapters also train and mentor members and organize meetings with local lawmakers to discuss our issues, which is the most important aspect of grassroots advocacy. When more people meet with local lawmakers of their constituency and apprise them of our issues, the better will be their understanding of our issues and goes a long way towards aiding our ongoing advocacy efforts. Voicing our opinions and concerns in a peaceful manner is the �American way� of doing things and Immigration Voice is the platform for future Americans like us to voice our opinions and concerns.
State chapters organize workshops, participate in community events like fairs and marathons, and help arrange media interviews, organize advocacy events like lawmaker meets and rallies, help in raising funds towards advocacy and running the organization. State Chapter members are always verified by the chapter leaders. Most often, the core team shares updates with chapter leaders who in turn share these updates with the chapter members. Chapter leaders keep the members of their state involved, recruit more members and help organize activities and events. Besides joining and participating in state chapters, we need other active volunteers to join us in different teams which are working in specific area like the media group, the newsletter group, the advocacy group etc. Each of these groups is led by dedicated members who work with members in formulating IV documents and strategies.
We also want to urge our members to generously contribute to our cause. We as a non-profit organization depend on your contributions to work on various media and advocacy activities. By quoting the famous words of Martin Luther King Jr. �The time is always right to do what is right.� We request our members to join a state chapter by following the link

I have just finished my first year @ UCLA and I had absolutely no financial aid because I did not know anything about my status and when I read on fafsa about "parole" I thought it was a completely different category under which I was ineligible. My i-485 has been pending for 3 years now, with no sign of going anywhere yet :*(This year, I did not apply for FAFSA and I was forced to leave my amazing school and head to community college. I had searched and searched everywhere for information and I really did finally give up and thought to myself, " I guess I cannot receive any financial and am going to have to wait for my green card in community college."
I just wanted to say thank you thank you thank you!! From the bottom of my heart, I am sooo grateful to have found this site seredipitously!!!!!
I just pulled up the advance parole application and will complete it ASAP~!!!!!!!
I feel like the greatest burden has been lifted from my shoulder!

time to sart a campaign.....hey I am legal, I applied for GC in 2001 and govt will give it to me after it has given to all 245i, and everyone and that happens to be in 2012, so how abt guys in 2002,2003,2004?
When it was time to give GC govt wasted all our numbers now they dont want to give us.
BTW is there really a law that disallows using unused visa number for a given fiscal year oafter the end of that fiscal year? If so where is it and how does it read like?

Hey arnet! I am having the same problem. I filed for EAD renewal and then I got my card the other day, but problem is they gave me the same expiration date w/c is Jan. 2007. I called the 1-800# 4 times the day after I got my new card to let them know of the error. I never felt so disappointed and frustrated in my whole life! The first 3 representative I spoke could not tell me anything but "sorry we can't do anything about that". One of them even told me to go to the USCIS where I had my biometrics taken.. and that was 5 hours drive from where I live. I was so pissed. Then I tried to call again that same day just to see if there's anyone in their customer service who has some sense to tell me. And luckily a lady answered and she told me to fill out another I-767 form and send it to the service center who approved my case without the filing fee. That is if it's their fault, they're going to waive the fee.
The only thing that gets to me is, we put our trust in these people to do their part.. because we do. We pay our taxes, we pay for all these filing fees, we do not violate their country.. we're just here to work. Yet after all the waiting that we do, all the hoping, all the sacrifices..this is all we get. A MISTAKE on our IDs.
I filled out a new EAD application, made copies of all the notices I received from them regarding this application...and I even wrote a damn letter just to explain what happened. I'm in so much pressure right now because I need to have my new card as soon as possible... I am due for renewal of my driver's license. If I can't have that card by the end of this year, I am doomed! I will lose my license and my job. Thanks to them! :mad:

Not sure about H1B, but I know this that she has to get give some certification exams for the state that she wants to practice from. A friend's wife got a certification done and then she worked in the US, and her employer filed for her GC and the GC was approved in 6 months in 2006. They are from India. I believe the US has a huge need for physiotheraphists and so under some rule/quota they get a GC very fast.

The article is not very clear. It sounds like this will cause more trouble than benefit us. The 485 filing will be based on PD after pre-registration is cleared, so people who were originally eligible to apply for 485, EAD and AP when PD is current will lose the EAD/AP benefits during pre-registration process.

I have visited India with old Employer Vis a Stamp. We just need to show the new I797 approval notice. They will update I-94 with the new date.

I doubt that. Returning after a long period on AP would sure make the POE officer grill that person, as AP is supposed to be used in case of emergencies and humanitarin grounds. I was grilled at IAD on return after 30 days and the POE officer asked me to present documentary evidence of the emergency to travel outside US.
