I love my G5 PowerPC- works beautifully, but I'm looking to upgrade from the PowerPC chip set to an Intel set, since it appears the software people don't want to support it anymore. I want to know if I can cannibalize my old Power Mac- just install the hard drives and memory into a couple of Intel Mac Pros that I'm looking at. Bottom line: are the memory and hard drives compatible?

I was going to help you until I read that line.
Instead, all you'll get from me is this comment, and a stiff suggestion that you use this tool (http://www.google.com/), like everyone else has for years. I'm confident even you could have found an answer if you tried.
Its gone sorry didn't know it was a bad thing to say.......

Hi,
I got my iphone 4 last October and now with normal every-day usage the battery is almost dead half way through the day. Do I need to calibrate the battery? If I do how would I go about doing that?
Thanks in advance :)

Yes, you can apply a password. And you can also set it so the network does not appear unless you type in the network name. Useful if you need to hide the network from someone.

Thing is, SandyBridge comes with slightly worse graphics. Would worse graphics affect music-creating software? I heard Garageband is GPU-intensive. Not so sure about Logic Pro.
Neither is what I would call GPU-intensive. As a matter of fact GarageBand '11 runs perfectly happilly on my iMac 1.83 Core Duo with a ATI X1600, and my MacBook White with a Intel X3100 - neither of which is remotely powerful compared to the GPU in my 11" Air. The situation is the same with Logic Pro, however the big downside with an Air is the lack of FireWire. If it fits in your workflow then a MBA w 4/8GB RAM should handle GarageBand/Logic Express/Logic Pro just fine (Heck my low-end 11"/1.4/2GB MBA handles Final Cut Pro for basic editing and even Motion 4 at a pinch, so Graphics definitely shouldn't be an issue).

yes, that's exactly what I did. I took an external 1TB WD small form factor drive (it houses a 2.5" HDD), created 200GB and 800GB partitions, then installed Lion on the smaller one. I still haven't begun to use the larger partition, however :D
BTW, has anyone gotten iStat Menus 2.0 running on Lion? I can't seem to get it working correctly. It downloads the sensors, but when I click on any of them in the preference pane, I'm told that they can't be loaded.

At my Uni we aren't suppose to have out own wireless networks, but I know of atleast 4 dorms that do. They simply hide the network so only they know what it is.

Good. Pay your taxes amazon. Why should they not have to? If there were a federal law in place they would have no other options. No more tax breaks for corporations.
Don't you mean pay your taxes Amazon customers? The reprieve was on people living in SC not having to pay sales tax on things they buy via Amazon.

I is possible that your backlight may be failing.
And LCD's backlight will fail eventually, but that takes years and years. If yours is failing now, I hope you have AppleCare or something.
Do you think that this is what is happening?

I think he's better off wiping and reinstalling the OS.
I agree. Who knows what dingleberries are hanging on from the previous user? Best to start fresh and safe with a clean install.

It appears that OS X will truncate any password longer than 7 characters to only 8 characters. In other words, it's an 8-character overflow. This problem is global in that it affects the Login Window, Screen Effects, Keychain Access, and even network logon security. For anyone with long password phrases that have easily-guessable words in the first 8 characters, this is a problem. Since "MacintoshOSXIsMoreSecureThanMicrosoftWindows" only needs to be entered as "Macintosh", gaining unauthorized access is very simple with a common name attack. Of course, we all have passwords that are a combination of letters and numbers, including a mix of upper- and lower-case characters. ;)
