Would you care to elaborate on this, and its security implications?

Also, if you modify your httpd.conf file (which *is* the best method, but rarely available in shared hosting environments), don't forget to restart Apache ;)

If the file is writable, it depends on the user who owns it. If it is writable by the user running the web server, someone might be able to write a shell script into that file. Now that it has execute privileges, it's not that far of a stretch to get it to execute.

A good rule of thumb is don't give any more permissions than are necessary. If it only needs to be readable, then there's no reason to give write or execute privileges. Many security incidents happen due to lax security. Don't be one of them.

Also, you're right on with the shared server piece. I didn't recognize that the original question was concerning a shared web server.

    Hi all,
Just incase anyone stumbles across this thread when they are having similar issues I wanted to post an update.

It sounds so simple but I think my wake issues may have actually just been down to weak batteries in my keyboard.

After 10.6.7 some people were reporting that they were getting the wrong battery life metering for wireless devices. Some people had their power levels stuck at 100% even though the batteries had previously been showing 50% depletion before updating to 10.6.7

My keyboard was showing 46% yesterday but I thought to eliminate the possibility of the mac pro waking due to a lost keyboard connection due to weak batteries, I changed them out for fresh batteries.

My mac went to sleep last night and slept the whole night, until I woke it this morning.

I'll try it again later but I'm pretty certain that's all it was.

Oh well, at least I've got a freshly installed OS and clean running machine now, even though all I actually needed to do was swap some batteries! :)

I ran across this program the other day and have been using it. The speed of this version of firefox is much faster than safari or ff1.0. Here is a link to the site.

Anyone successfully swapped out their stock hard drive for an upgraded size, or does anyone have info on the 2TB sized models?

Also can people post the firmware version if possible. Thanks!

If the photos are on the SSD drive, then yes they will launch faster than if on the HDD. Now that said, if they are just average say 2MB JPG photos the difference will not be huge. If it is a very hi-res photo say 10MB JPG the difference will be more noticeable.

    Makes sense . . thanks

edit: just read this article which explains it quite well

    Thanks for the input.

So rmtoberman, what you're saying is you can get about 4 hours of playback after recording for an hour?

Does it come with an SD card then? I can't really tell from the Amazon listing.

Tried it in low light situations at all?

4.3.1 didn't bring much but 4.3 brought improvements on AirPlay, safar, added home sharing options, iPad sloder switch option, and added the hotspot feature.

    http://www.apple.com/ios/

Well, it didn't add the hot spot feature for the iPad. But yeah, I'm gonna hold off, nothing really of interest.

I heard that the Special Red Edition iPhone 3G Pro will be released soon, if so, will it be 16GB or 32GB? Or, it will have both formats? Will you get this special version instead of a black or white one?

I believe the iPhone would never work as a "Product (red)" seeing as all "Product (red)" products are not for profit. Just like you'll never see a (red) Macbook. It's just too valuable to be for charity, sad ... But true.

I would only transfer OS X and apps so in Migration Assistant, simply don't include the users folder and whatever takes a lot space. After migration, move the other data from the other computer/external to the HD.

You can also point your Home folder to the HD which makes managing an SSD and HD pretty easy.

    It is Power PC G4.

Did 'safe' mode restart and still same problem - just the display icon and date stamp in corner. When I try to shut down it won't let me and says that 'Finder' quit the restart.

Found copy of Tiger but the previous owner said it never worked properly.

    Hi,

I just switched from Windows to a Mac, and the only thing I miss is the way Firefox used to behave. I can't figure out what to do to get a browser I genuinely love.

First of all, Safari. I know a lot of people like it, and I tried to, but I hate it. It sticks and takes a ridiculously long time to load pages. I like the way it looks, the way the tabs function, etc., and could get a along with it just fine if it actually loaded pages swiftly. I have no idea how to fix that or if it's even possible.

    Obviously not IE.

Firefox acts up on my mac. Sure, it's just as fast as it was on my PC, but eh. The themes won't skin properly, the extensions I cherished (TBE, for example) don't work properly, and generally it's just a big clunky headache compared to the other applications I've started to get used to. Sure, I miss my gmail notifier and the insanely useful Adblock and Sage RSS, and SuperDrag&Go, but all the other extensions I don't miss at all.

I've just tried Camino, and while it loads pages beautifully, it's not very pretty or very customizable, and the back/forward buttons only work half the time.

My choices seem to be: a sticky nightmare (Safari), a tchotche-filled mac-unfriendly ex flame (Firefox), or fast but user-unfriendly blandness (Camino). I'm really, really unhappy.

Any advice on what I can do to restore my former browsing bliss?

yeah, i'm not sure what time i'll head to the mall...probably sometime around 6-ish. at&t store is closer to where i live, but come on, who wants to go to an at&t store?
Not a matter of want, but of necessity. I tried the Apple store first, but they just said "duh... what?" when I asked if they could set me up with two phones and a family plan.

Thus, I went to the AT&T store; which is where I'll be at 7am next Friday. Sure, I'd rather be at the Apple store, but ultimately I'd rather have 2 new iPhones.

They effectively block the response buttons and I end up having to cancel edits to my posts.
