    I'm also on the fence about ordering my imac with or without the ssd option.

    (forgive my lack of computer knowledge here....): I understand in basic terms, that having the OS and Apps installed on the ssd has many advantages over hhd, such as allowing the imac to boot up the OS and apps faster.

    Question:
    Lets take the iPhoto app as an example . . . If iPhoto is installed onto the ssd, it should/will launch the app faster than if it was installed onto the hdd - okay, I get that.

    Now, once iPhoto has opened/launched, will it operate any faster or smoother if iPhoto is installed on a ssd vs. if it was on a hdd?

    Just checked on my Verizon iPhone running iOS 4.2.8, and it IS allowing me to airplay video to my Apple TV. I don't usually airplay, as I just stream via homesharing from my Macbook Pro to my Apple TV, so I can't say if this is "new" or not. But, I can definitely Airplay video.

    I have a white iPhone4, I have no issues with the sensor or drop of signal at all :)

    I was waiting on the 5 but have always wanted a white iPhone, my 3GS is black and so far I'm very pleased indeed :D

    Did you previously have the black one?

    ...and this for everyone who suffers from the silly gaudy childish look of OS X and misses the clean elegance of OS 9 (it not necessarily the extension conflicts and the lousy task-threading).

    1) The Classic Platinum Theme (http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/15581). Installable on OS X using either unsanity.com's ShapeShifter or Duality 4

    2) X-Assist (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/10519) or ASM (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/10410) to give you an application switching menu in your menubar.

    3) FruitMenu (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/12974) to give you back an editable / customizable Apple Menu, to give you a hierarchical menu-view of System Prefs so you don't have to launch the entire %&## System Preferences pane and then reach with your mouse a second time to invoke the specific PrefsPane you want. And to use as a launcher.

    4) WindowShade X (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/12243), to be able to minimize windows the classic Macintosh way, not like some Windows PC-wannabe. (Will also minimize-in-place to a small icon)

    5) PullTab (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/18606), to pry that damn Dock's filthy hands off the keystoke combo Command-Tab, thus freeing it up for apps with original rights to it, like FileMaker Pro.

    6) To get your Trash can onto the Desktop where it belongs, there are several apps that purport to be able to do so, but I prefer to just use TinkerTool to make everything visible in the Finder, then make an alias to .Trash and put the alias on the Desktop. Find a nice MacOS 9ish Trashcan icon on the internet and paste.

    7) Now to dispense with the godforsaken Dock itself. Two choices: you can minimize it practically out of existence by pinning it to the left edge of your screen and then edit com.apple.dock.plist in a text editor, manually changing the tilesize parameter to 1, which will give you a Dock about the size of a pinhead in a place where you won't mouse-over on it very often by accident; or you can nuke it entirely. To nuke it entirely, first copy Dock.app from /System/Library/CoreServices and make that copy a startup item for every user account on your machine (towards the top of the list); then make an AppleScript consisting of tell application "Dock"; quit; end tell, save it as an application, and add that to your startup items (towards the end); then, finally, sudo rm the original Dock.app from within CoreServices. Hickory Dickory, baby :)

    I want to be able to access it as an external network drive on both my 10.6 MBP(2010) and my G3 os x 10.2.

    Obviously i couldnt use the time machine backup facility on the G3 but i would like to access the files and share between the two

    Look forward to your replies

    I have a 250gb Porche design and it's nice. I hasn't failed. It hums a little, and it spools down when I unmount the drive from the OS. I really don't get what all the design kudos are for it. It has a shiny front, and is pretty much a rectangle. I like SilverKeeper, the backup software that comes with it. Careful with what you choose to exclude during the backup.

    Hmm. Odd. Because that page isn't very human-readable (I count myself as more Borg-like than human) is really why I was wondering about the HTML encodings and the comma separations and stuff.

    [QUOTE=4God;12520756]You mean NAB?

    Lol that's what I ment... I'm a drummer so NAMM just came out accidentally.

    Of course I don't expect any news from you guys, just a better video and highlights from Apple rather then the bloggers there (no offense to bloggers thanks for getting the info up).

    I want it day 1 mainly to learn it as fast as possible and see how FCX 64bit works on my Mac Pro, since I have been limited to Adobe and handbreak at the moment. I understand why people will wait, let's hope there's not many bugs to fix.

    I understand not wanting competitors to see the product. I don't need the whole write up just a bit more of what's to come. The release is so close and I'm sure adobe and avid saw plenty of FCX so a little teaser trailer would be cool. I'm just excited to see how this program will work, it should be interesting. Let's hope it rocks!

    Are "some people" your parents? It's relatively easy to fake a broken computer without actually harming it if you think about it -- but your request sounds sketchy to me.

    The new i5 13 inch MBP performs better at some games and worse at others when comparing them to the previous generation. It's a compromise Apple had to make with this generation in order to get the Sandy Bridge processors. If gaming is important to you and money is tight I'd go for a PC with discrete graphics.

    It looks like OS X passwords are still more secure than Windows passwords, even with an 8-character limit. I was not really able to get Keychain to accept a truncated password. When I was testing the password lengths, I set an 8-character one, was immediately prompted by iChat to enter a password into Keychain, and forgot that I had already changed it from a 9-character one. If OS 10.3 fixes the character limit, the passwords will be even more secure than they are now.

    http://news.com.com/2100-1009_3-5053063.html?tag=fd_top

    {
    Microsoft has used two encoding schemes, also known as hashing functions, to encrypt passwords. The first, known as LANManager or LANMan, was used by Windows 3.1, 95, 98, Me and early NT systems to secure passwords that were used to connect to early Windows networks.

    The LANMan scheme has several weaknesses, including converting all characters to uppercase, splitting passwords into 7-byte chunks, and not using an additional random element known as "salt." While the more recent NTHash fixes the first two weaknesses, it still does not use a random number to make the hashes more unique.

    The result: The same password encoded on two Windows machines will always be the same. That means that a password cracker can create a large lookup table and break passwords on any Windows computer. Unix, Linux and the Mac OS X, however, add a 12-bit salt to the calculation, making any brute force attempt to break the encryption take 4,096 times longer or require 4,096 times more memory.
    }

    Did you try googling the obvious: palindrome python program

    One of the top 10 hits is this:

    For sammysam52, the OP in that thread posted code and solved their own problem with a gentle nudge.

    What is your approach?
